Many people have pointed to 'lex talionis', the law of retaliation, as an example of the vengeful nature of Jewish Law. In this session we will uncover the historical roots of the law in ancient Middle-Eastern culture and we will examine rabbinic attempts to completely re-interpret the law in light of The Rabbis' own sense of propriety and justice.
