The miracle of how Israeli gas will solve Israel's water problems

Major gas finds have recently been found off the Israeli coast. Much of it will be used is to desalinate seawater. Michael will explain the origin of the gas, why it is present under the Mediterranean and how it is being exploited. Some of the political and environmental issues around water in Israel now being solved will be presented.

Michael is a professor of marine and environmental science at Haifa University and at the University of Leeds. He has a special interest in Israel’s water problems and was on the World Bank project looking at the feasibility of a Red Sea/Dead Sea canal.
